LOOP HARDER DAMNIT!!! please help

i have always noticed that logic doesn't play audio of loops once they become to small, lets say 1/128th note or something. over the last project or two, logic is only letting me loop down to 1/64th and sometimes wont even play audio at that. even if i = the loop to consolidate it, it shows up as empty.

is there a buffer tweak i can do or some preference that i am missing, or is logic just not wanting to be as cool as i need it to be here?

Ultrabeat Multi-Output?

It seems like it should be straight forward.... When I assign individual sounds within an Ultrabeat kit to other outputs besides 1+2 there is no change in routing or sound. For example, the bass drums are going out of the main 1+2 and I want to assign the snare and hi hats to 3+4......but when I do that the hi hats and snare are still coming out of 1+2 instead of 3+4. Am I missing something or is something wrong with my software? Any tips are much appreciated.

What am I doing wrong trying to make an Apple Loop?

I import a sound into the audio bin, trim it, then drop it into the arrangement. Then, I click on "Convert to apple loop", or "open apple loop utility" and all the options are shaded out, it it not letting me make an apple loop out of this sound.

How do you cut an and create an apple loop? Or baring that, just let me time-stretch and transpose this loop like I can with an apple loop?

This is one area where Live absolutely wipes the floor with Logic.

I have had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to transpose the Apple Loops. You can't use the Time/Pitch machine to do it. I have heard you have to use the Chord Track to do it, but that is endless confusion for me. Does the Chord track affect all apple loops at once?

Hi,

When I try to copy and paste large parts of a track logic takes over 5 minutes to finish the task, it happens towards the end of writing fairly complicated tracks. Does anyone know how to get this task done faster?

-The system performance meter shows I am only using 1/3 of the cpu

problem with note input, HELP!!!

OK that has NEVER happened before, and I can't figure out what the problem is... kinda driving me nuts...

ONLY on this one song (let's call it "Track A"), for some reason I can't input notes with my keyboard.

I thought maybe it was a problem with the keyboard, but I tried it in reason and it works fine.
I then opened another song in logic and the keyboard works fine on that song, but not when I switch back to "Track A"
The caps lock keyboard doesn't input notes either... it comes up but doesn't input anything.

Does anyone have ANY idea what's going on here? I'm totally baffled, and I would really like to be able to continue working on this song.

hi there. i just joined your tribe because, well, today is my first day on logic. just got a new macbook pro and ive got pro 8 and everything seems er, fairly logical. i can see ive got a lot of learning to do and im hoping someone here can be patient enough to answer my rudimentary stepping stones and push me through it. ive used some other programs, but i think logics gonna be the main one from here on out.. and these tribes are the perfect place to speed the setup up up up up . . . .

todays issue - radium 49 midi keyboard not recognized at all. ive tried the preferences, the detect, and installed the midi sport firmware? still no response when logics looking for midi input

can i drag rex files into the sequencer? just through rewire i suppose?

thanks,

Sample Rate Fluctuation

My sample rate in Logic (still Pro 7.1.0) switched from 44k to 48k a long tiome ago and I've been working in 48k ever since.

Yesterday, however, out of the blue (and not because of any external midi devices) it switched back to 44100 and now all my projects sound like shite and it won't let me switch it back to 48K.

Anyone know how to remedy this?

If you haven't messed with the vector envelope in the es2 in logic you may want to give it a wollipin :) It makes some new sounds I have never heard before. Tons of stuff to route on top of that with the router too...

Fun stuff..

Logic crashes and regions are suddenly missing.

> All the sudden some of the regions that were there before are suddenly > missing on one of my tracks. > I had updated my firmware since I opened the track last. Does > anyone know > what might have happend and how I could get those regions to show > up again. > the automation on those tracks is still there and when I play the > song logic > is playing those tracks as if the regions were still there, the > midi is > still being triggered...No tracks are not hidden. Really weird. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that I have a refurbished mac-book pro. Logic crashes on me when I am not running any other programs, and when I am not pushing my cpu. I love logic, but It has so many bugs with me. When Logic crashed I opened the track back up 2 pop up windows appeared and said;

archive and restore

449 invalid region(s) changed!
================
There are regions in the this track!

Delete track and regions?
-============
------------Then when I opened the back up file/song there were two other pop up windows that said
=============
Damaged song!

(clearrec: sevstart < MSEQ)
================
Error in seqdelete

negative size

Option-Cancel

When I looked at the track.
. Then regions will be missing and the track is half ruined. ??? Anyone know how to get my track back, I spent like 5 hours on that track so far.

Thanks

Is there a way to reset cpu for a song?

So I wrote a track and then decided to change most things in it, I deleted all the automation of most of the tracks ect... The CPU is being pushed hard still though, as though Logic has to memorize a bunch of stuff from the old stuff I deleted or something. Logic also stopped playback to tell me that I am pushing memory for the track and is crashing on me very often.

Does anyone know why the cpu is being pushed so hard and whether there is some way that I could reset something in the preferences in the track?

I want to use my keyboard like an mpc. I loaded my break into the exs24 but when I hit the pad I have 2 options.
1. hold the pad down until I want it to stop playing.
2. hit the pad once and overlap if I hit it again.

when I used fruity loops I had the option to make the sample cut itself. so I could hit the pad once and when I hit it again it would start over again without overlapping itself. Is there a way I can do that on logic?

whenever i use the space designer, i can't scroll through presets, with the arrow buttons, i need to manually go through each preset and then it asks me to find that preset, i would imagine that it was not designed to do that, i might have messed it up when i installed it and accidently put the presets in the wrong place, when i was organizing things, has anybody had this problem, or can you tell me where your space designer presets are located so that i may see if mine are in the right place?

ok I use to use adobe audition(cool edit) but now Im on logic the all in one program but its not as easy to do it as it was on audition.. So I have a song from my itunes that I want to loop.. But the sound I want only plays in the left channel.. Is there an easier way to copy it without having to bounce the track? when I bounce the track I trun the mixer to the let channel then bounce it so I can get that one side.. Then I go to the part I want and copy.. Thats waaaaaay too much work for something I can just highlight and copy on audition...

HI, so I was working on my new track like I have been for almost a week, I quit and relaunched Logic, and now for some reason every time I hit play, I get the message, logic has detected a possible conflict between one or more audio or midi drivers. I hadn't touched any of my settings, I had just saved, quit and then relaunched. Has Anybody had this problem before or think they can offer any solutions? It would be hugely appreciated??
Thanks,

Problem creating a stereo track

On the top left of the arrange window I click on the track tab>Create
Multiple> I have my driver set to core audio, track type audio, and when
I
try to create any number of tracks it doesn't leave me the option of mono or
stereo track. Mono and stereo options after "Mode" are gray and I
can't
click on either.

This problem makes it so when I create a direction mixer as an effect on
audio channels, the left side has more volume and when I turn the direction
mixer to the right it lowers the volume. I send my aux. channels and audio
channels out to buses to effect my drums tracks together so with this
problem I can't effect any of them before they are sent out.

Help is much appreciated.

1. Has anyone had Logic 7 completely crash their computer? I've been having some minor MIDI issues over the last few days (Logic won't see any MIDI input even though my interface shows input), but now whenever I'm working on a song, I'll get about 5 minutes into it, and I'll get that slow grey screen come down and my computer just crashes. Any ideas as to why this might be happening? I'm working on an Intel MacBook Pro running Logic 7.2.

2. I've heard there are issues with EXS instruments when moving from Logic 7 to 8. I heard that all you have to do is copy your instruments and settings somewhere else, then copy them back into the Application Support->Logic folder after installing Logic 8. Anyone already gone through this?

Thanks!

Hi...
If I did a whole project in 44.1, does it make sense to bounce it out to 48 or 96 in the mix process? Since it's going to end up 44.1 in the end anyway, is there any advantage or disadvantage to doing so? I do have some reverbs and fx and stuff running...
Thanks in advance.

Last time I was here, the tribe was still unmoderated (under Moderator it still said "Unsubscribed").
I couldn't find a discussion thread about it... and there weren't any new posts in the "This Tribe seeking Moderator" thread.
Maybe I need to look again?
Not that it really matters much ~ this is probably one of the top 10 "lowest maintenance" tribes on this bea.
I'm just curious.

Well I was not expecting an upgrade like this.

So what do you think?

Great that they got rid of the dongle and the price is unbelievable. Can't wait to have a fiddle with the new UI.

Great stuff from Apple.

Hello logic nuts,

I have a question someone might be able to help me with. I have logic pro 7 "not for resale" version and want to upgrade to the new Logic Studio. I have to buy the full version since I cannot upgrade the not for resale that I have.

My question is: how do I delete logic 7 and still have my previous instruments, songs, etc saved to use in the new logic 8?

I don't want to have both copies on my machine at the same time due to HD space, but I also don't want to lose years worth of pro 7 stuff when I upgrade.

Thanks for any help you all can give me.
logic playing wrong notes?

I dont know if this might have been a problem leftover from the previous version of Logic 8, but... I'm looking here in my sequencer a little bit in disbelief but... logic seems to be playing completely different notes than it should be. It isn't until I rewind to the beginning of a loop, and start the song from there that it will begin to play the right notes again. Has anyone experienced something similar to this in a previous version of Logic?

Academic? Retail?

Does anyone know how to look up whether an XSKey serial number belongs to an academic version or full retail version??

It's been... umm... I don't even know how long since Logic 6 was released. That's when I bought Logic, and I can't remember whether I got the academic price or not. Now I wanna upgrade to Logic Studio and they make it so previous academic versions aren't eligible... but it doesn't way anywhere in the application, XSKey, or manuals which version it is. Only on the box, which disappeared somewhere between my 5-or-so moves since then.

Logic's support website is utterly unhelpful.

If anyone knows anything about XSKey sn's... like either a good email address to inquire to, or maybe "if it starts with 000... then..." or something like that, please share.

Thanks,
Eitan

I've been running on Logic Express for a couple years now. As of recently, I've been still mulling over whether to put the money down to purchase Pro now, or wait until version 8 comes out. There is little information coming from apple or anyone I know in regards to Logic 8, or if its even going to be called Logic anymore. I'm afraid of purchasing Pro only to find that they have released the new version and I'd have to spend more on upgrading.

So as Logic Pro users, would you say its worth purchasing now, or would you suggest to continue to wait?

I have been using Logic Pro 7 for nearly two years. The other day, when I went to start up, I was given a message that said:
"Welcome to Logic Pro 7. Please choose "Run Demo" if you wish to preview Logic Pro 7 for a limited time before purchasing it."
My options are "Run Demo" or "Quit."
I am unable to start the program after choosing "Run Demo."
I have tried deleting the Logic recipts and reinstalling, with no success.
Can anyone help? Thanks!

I was given a session that was created in Logic 4 using DAE, therefore every track is mono L + R. When I create new Core Audio tracks and try to move the files one by one, they're linked together and won't move independently. Does anyone know how to un-link them without having to go back to the regions list and pull them down one by one?

I just installed the Battery 3 and Kontakt 2 upgrades... standalone works fine, but it doesn't show up in Logic Pro 6's instrument list. The component file is in the right folder, and in fact, it opens up fine in Ableton Live. Makes me think it's a Logic problem... but why?? Other NI upgrades work fine and Logic recognizes them no problem. I tried reinstalling.
If anyone has any thoughts, experience, theories, or suggestions... please share.
Thanks in advance.

I'm using Logic 7.2 and a virus ti on my intel mac and I'm trying to get the sound to play through my MOTU traveller sound card. Right now I can use my virus in Logic, but only if I've selected the virus as my audio driver and have all of the output coming through there. I need a way to have the virus connected through USB, but have it only appear as a soft synth that outputs through my traveller. Can anyone help me?

What Would You like to see in LOGIC 8?

So, Logic is awesome, but many of us can admit that programs like cubase have exceeded logic in audio file manipulation and some other areas....

if you were to talk to Logic programmers and tell them what you want to see, what would it be....?

1. Bounce in place (bounce and replace audio file)
2. Audio editing in the environment window (normalize, rev, fades, without going to audio window)
3. Batch processing, like normalizing several files at a time.
4. Much Better time stretching algorythms, and time stretching from environment window.
5. Copy or move automation section without moving audio

hmmm, there are a few, i would love to hear your thoughts....

Beats, Loops and Percussion In Logic: Best Practices?

Perhaps some people here can help me out?

BACKGROUND: i'm finally getting into Logic after many years of suffering as a PC user without access to this platform. i primarily compose electronic dance music (deep house, tech house, progressive and electro).

MAIN QUESTION: what's the best way to integrate beats, loops and percussion into Logic so that I can build really rich, contemporary sounding tracks?

FOLLOW-UPS:

- Is a combo of Ultrabeat and EXS24 good enough alone to achieve what I'm after?
- What's the best way to set up Ultrabeat to make it really flexible?
- Are there pitfalls to using EXS24 for building kits.
- Would a dedicated drum machine softsynth like Battery or iDrum be easier to work with? If so, which program would you recommend and why?
- What other questions should I be asking so I can get this most out of Logic in regards to rhythm?

Serious Panning Issues?

THis may seem very strange, but hopefully it's a very simple thing. I'm pretty new to logic. My problem is that some tracks autmatically pan themselves all the way to one side and don't want to go back. I even open the automation for the traCK and set the line right on the center for the whole track, but the level still says +50 or so, even though the line is in the middle, on 0. Any ideas? Thanks

Rex and Logic 7.2 ...... ANSWERS!!!

in my long search for the ability to use .rx2 (recycle) files in logic express 7.2, I have found the answer.

FOR LOGIC PRO AND EXPRESS 7.2 for Intel Mac

The is a file that you need to download from the propellerheads website. Once you have this file, Logic will recognize rex files. Its a super small file, and there is no authorization needed.

http://www.propellerheads.se/remote.cfm?sID=dynamo&nav=yes&menu=/download/index.cfm?fuseaction=display_menu&page=/download/index.cfm?fuseaction=get_article&article=rexsharedlibrary

good luck using your rex files... it is so much easier now!

Upgrade Path?

I'd like your opinions about upgrading. I am keenly interested in the additional processing power of the new Intel machines. The more it can do the more reverb I can play with. The tripper the delays I can produce, and the more psychedelic my sound will be. However...

A lot of the tools I really like using are NOT Intel compatible. Even the ones that are will end up costing me a pretty penny in upgrades and new registrations. Some aren't ever going to be updated.

I don't absolutely ~have~ to use those tools but it does make a lot of things easier. I desperately need more processing power but I'm really unsure of which way to go. A solid G5 still demands a pretty penny but it'll save me gobs of money on the application side but may lock me out of future Logic upgrades.

On the other hand, the insane processing capacity of the new Intels would mean that I could actually use some of the integrated plug-ins that come with Logic that I don't use at all now (Space Designer for example). With the next iteration of Logic I expect that the mastering tools I use will be included on a more functional and powerful level than the old stuff too.

I'm really confused and unsure about what path to take.

I could get a lot of bang for the buck either way. Getting a project done ASAP is a real priority as well. Even now, I still feel wishy washy about the whole idea. A G5 with the tools I know and love would be awesome but I am wary of spending 3k on a system half as powerful as the same 3k (okay nearly 5) on an 8 core machine that will likely last me another three years.

I look forward to your explained opinions regarding this dilemma and I think you for your time.

Concept Albums: How To?

Hey People:

If you were to create a concept album, how would you go about creating the piece? Would you cut it up into tracks and then use another program to weave them together or would you make one massive track that you split up when you're creating the CD?

I have a couple of ideas for concept albums but whenever I try to work on any of them I get overwhelmed by the complexity and my computer simply can't handled the number of sound generators and manipulators I want to use. I don't want the album to sound like one super long track (but I do - sorta - meaning it needs to fit seamlessly).

Those of you who are fans of concept albums (like me) will know what I mean and those of you who don't know what I mean, check out these albums:

Pink Floyd:

The Wall
The Final Cut

Roger Waters:

The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking
Radio K.A.O.S.

Shpongle:

Are You Shpongled?

There are more but I can't think of them off the top of my head. Pink Floyd has been the primary resource for that type of production I've had exposure to but I love it and I want to make my own.

Any pointers you may have or suggestions you can provide are more than welcome and I look forward to reading (and trying) them out.
Audio Instrument output routing to input of Audio track?

I occasionally use (on my G4 Powerbook) a little 303 clone, Airy Andre's AU303. He hasn't updated it in several years nor does he seems to plan any UB version of it. In preparation for moving to an Intel Book (Macbook Pro) I want to record the AU303's audio output over into a spare straight audio track. (Treat it as recording slices and loops from that point on, so I can preserve the AU303 performances for use on MacIntel.)

I can't figure out how to rout the output of an audio instrument track to the input of an audio track in the Environment window. (I've never needed to before.)

Multichannel mixing

I got patch cables in the back of my MOTU 828 going from each alanog output into its corresponding input. This helps me easily record knob tweaks on instruments and effects straight into an audio channel.

So now I want to utilize all those outputs to give certain elements their own dedicated output. I noticed it sounds much better that way... like the sounds have room to express themselves. But then how do I bounce it all down? Logic only lets me bounce 1 stereo output at a time, and even if I could bounce them simultaneously they would still end up as separate files. Seems I ultimately have to reroute them into one stereo output for bouncing...

Unless I bounce each output separately and then import the results into a new project and then bounce that down...

But I'm wondering if there is a way, without an external mixer, to keep all the separate outputs and then mix that down.

What are the tradeoffs of various methods in terms of sound deterioration?

I appreciate any input you may have (pun not intended).

Okay... so i have an audio track that hits at about 0db the whole time, never clips....

i put a low cut filter on it to do a fade at the end of the track, all of a sudden the track is clipping at 2.1db.

not only that, but on the master, it shows clipping at about 1db...

???

i guess my first question is... does this even make sense?

my second... i am kind of looking for a sound engineer here i think... but if a track with no filter is hitting at zero, then filter sounds out couldn't make it louder could it? does this mean that the logic "low cut filter" has a resonance to it as well?
iBook vs. iMac

I'm just wondering if anyone has anything to say about the pros or cons of the new Mac iBooks or iMacs. I work in Logic, and I'm trying to decide which to get as my main workstation, and though the portability of the iBook is a huge plus, I want to be sure I'm not trading reliability or performance for portability.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I've been working on a song in Logic Express 7, and just sent the song file to a friend to work on. He's using Pro 7. He says the file won't open, and there's a warning that says "this is not a Logic Pro file". Is it possible that Pro won't open files made in Express? It seems crazy that it might not.

Thanks!

I've been starting to master in waveburner instead of inside Logic and when I "bounce mix" when I am done and open the AIFF file in Quick Time it tells me the correct playing time of 7:03. However when I import it into iTunes it tells me the track is 6 hours and 48 minutes long!!! When I check the info for the file in the Finder, it tells me the same thing as iTunes. What's the deal?

so, i have a question, simple but important.

when cutting audio, often you get a little click or a pop in the beginning or end of your new audio file, yes? well, i am wondering if there is a preference for adjusting the cut so that it will automatically fade in/out a certain section of the audio file.

I don't know if this is a feature of logic, but it seems that it should be....

Using an Electribe with Logic

Hello -

I'm trying to record my electribe into Logic. I've got the Blue Electribe MX, I'm putting it thru a Motu Traveler (via balanced 1/4" cables) for the sound card & then into Logic. When I try to record it works for a couple seconds and then I get a weird hi pitched beeping. Is there something I'm supposed to sync or something?

Thanks for your help!

Trouble hooking up Synth

Hello. I have been spending a couple of days trying to figure this out on my own, via manuals, but am still having problems.
I have just purchased my first hardware synth (Virus TI) and am trying to get it integrated into logic.
However, every time I start logic, I immediately get error messages that say "Timeout or Timer Inactive". Even while not doing anything these messages just keep popping up. I know I need to configure that environment window to recognize the synth, but this damn error message keeps me from doing anything.
Can someone please help me?
Thank you for your time.
Blessings,
~Brian

audo quality? logic vs. mac column view

So, I've been using Logic pro for 3 years. I've always felt that samples playing from logic’s arrange sound much more dull than samples playing outside of logic, even when just playing from the samples folder outside of Logic. Am I crazy? Is there a reason for this?

Today, I was also comparing a clip playing from the arrange to the same sample being played in the sample editor. The sample editor was rich sounding and had texture through all frequencies. The version playing from the arrange was very dull. Also, I notice that samples playing in the sample editor sometimes are running through filters that are not on that channel. Is this a bug, and was the sample in my example running through some random EQ?

To add another example, when I play drum sounds from their folder, they will sound crisp, and have good definition in the highs. When i bring them into Logic, they lose all of their character, and I end up EQing and compressing them to get them to sound as good as they did in the clip view.

This is really bugging me out, and I can't find answers anywhere. Please fill me in if you know what’s up!
Thanks

subtractive filter? For a better mix?

I've bee noticing on some songs that I feel have a particularly clean and open mix, that they have sounds such as pad and organ sounds that occupy very thin frequency spaces on the spectral analyzer. Is this the result of subtractive filters, maybe something more than just EQing? Or do you think that this is simply the nature of those particular sounds? The sounds still sound very rich. An example would be Rumpostol's "Tape Swamp."

help needed

Hey all,

Not sure if I am doing something wrong in my settings, or if there is something wrong with the software, but I'm using logic pro 7.2.1 on powerbook g4 12" with 1.25 ghz ram and when I go into caps lock mode and use the pen tool in the arrange window to bring up the window where one can input notes, I am able to use my computer keyboard to write notes into the grid when everything is stopped; but when I press play and try to input notes in this mode, nothing is happening... I have note quantization set to off, midi in checked.... I hear the notes being played when I tap the keys while playing to the other tracks; but nothing gets written. Any suggestions? Also it is acting kind of funny in that even though I have not quantization set to off, when I input notes when logic is stopped, they all come out at whatever universal note length was last set; not the duration that I hold the key down on the keyboard.

thanks in advance,

a humble logic newbie

help using tecniques for 3d sound

hey guys i've been using logic for almost a year and I just came to realize that my material sounds kinda flat or two dimension. I bet there may be many tecniques to get 3d sound by using dsp or vst, or any specific configuration in the program for surround sound. the concept i have is very vague since i tried to get info on line and it was kinda hard to find the right content specially for logic. I know, I'm just starting to get in to music production and i need to learn a lot more about spacial sound and sound synthesis. however, if any of you guys know any tips about widden stereo, surround or 3d sound using logic it will extremely helpful. thank you guys and keep up with the creativity.

Logic Pro 7 + ADAT + BRC = Frustration

I've been trying to pull some songs off of some ADAT tapes that I recorded years ago, but I'm having issues getting Logic, the BRC and subsequently the ADAT to talk to each other and to sync consistently. I only have one ADAT machine, but recorded with 3, therefore I need to be able to reliably access the same point on all of the tapes. Otherwise I'm going to be trying to line up all the tracks which sounds like hell to me.

Does anyone have any advice to share?

I have an audio interface @ home and it works fine. but I'm at work right now, and I am just messin around with some loops. I think that I have a total of 4 apple loops in the track, and it is giving me some core audio overload bullshit. I just bought a brand new computer!! WTF?? Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me?

So I finally bought the upgrade for Logic 7. Finally had a project I simply had to have 7 for (which conveniently upgrades from 6.4 to 7.2).

So - count the days. The last two times i upgraded logic it was 60 days later that they offered an expensive new upgrade. The policy of a free upgrade if you complain ends around 45 days out from your purchase.

So - based on this alone - my bioLOGICal clock timing.... I expect an upgrade in 60 days.
